Dr Emma Bryant (aka Empot, Koek or The Koek Monster)

Koek and I met at high school, weary of each other at first I think we needed some time to both ascertain the lay of the land, given that both our fathers were hero rugby players in the same team at UCT. Over time, we learnt a bit more about one another and starting bonding over food and horses in the DSG food hall. Once we realised that we could both “kakkle” as loud as each other, despite our mostly differing opinions, eat as much as each other and had similar dress sizes as a result, our friendship was formed. Ever since I have known Koek, she has wanted to be a Doctor (and a professional show jumper). She has recently mastered one and is now setting herself up to master the other, I leave you to ask which one is which. Koek is the most determined, hard working, humorous, vivacious, loyal and supportive person I know, so much so that she has even managed to convince my dad that it was her that took booze from our bar at home in standard 7 (sorry dad) and experienced the wrath of my father for doing so. After Koek, completed her medical degree in Durbs with “the Fox”, she moved down to Cape Town. She was one of the first of my friends to own her own flat which we lived in together, she handled two call nights a week with ease and still managed to 'razzle'and ‘crank it up’ to be the life and soul of any party she went to with next to no sleep. Koek, your hard work and perseverance has paid off, you have done us all proud and despite your extremely busy schedule, you have always managed to make time for me and make me feel like the number one friend in the world! Its my privileged to have you as my bridesmaid (even though she begged and pleaded not be a bridesmaid again)!
